About service:

Inlays and onlays are custom restorations used to repair teeth with damage or decay that may be too extensive for a traditional filling but may not require a full dental crown.

They can be made from materials such as porcelain, composite resin, or other dental materials selected based on the location and needs of the tooth.

Inlay vs. Onlay An inlay fits within the raised cusps of the chewing surface of a tooth.

An onlay covers a larger portion of the tooth and may extend over one or more cusps.

How Are Inlays and Onlays Placed?

Treatment may require more than one appointment depending on the material and fabrication method.

The damaged or decayed portion of the tooth is removed and the tooth is prepared. An impression or digital scan is taken to create the restoration. A temporary restoration may be placed when needed.

At the final appointment, the inlay or onlay is evaluated for fit and bite before it is bonded securely to the tooth and polished.

Inlays and onlays can provide a conservative restorative option for appropriately selected teeth.
