Deep Teeth Cleaning
About service:
Scaling and root planing is a non-surgical periodontal treatment used to remove plaque, tartar, and bacteria from below the gumline and along the roots of the teeth.
It may be recommended for patients with gingivitis or periodontal disease when buildup and inflammation extend below areas reached by a routine dental cleaning.
What Does Treatment Involve?
Before recommending scaling and root planing, your dentist will evaluate your gums, periodontal pocket depths, tartar buildup, X-rays when needed, and the overall condition of your mouth.
Local anesthesia may be used to help keep you comfortable during treatment.
Scaling Scaling removes plaque and hardened tartar from the surfaces of the teeth, especially below the gumline. Ultrasonic and hand instruments may be used to clean these areas thoroughly.
Root Planing Root planing smooths contaminated or rough areas of the tooth roots.
This helps create a cleaner surface and supports the healing of the surrounding gum tissue.
Depending on your condition, additional antimicrobial treatment may be recommended.
Benefits of Scaling and Root Planing Treatment can: - Reduce bacteria and inflammation below the gumline - Help periodontal tissues heal - Reduce periodontal pocket depths in some patients - Help protect the supporting tissues around the teeth - Improve breath and oral cleanliness - Reduce the risk of progression of periodontal disease Patients with advanced periodontal disease may require additional periodontal treatment or referral to a specialist.
